How You Helped Fundraise for a Friend

Yesterday, Sunday, was the funeral for one of my husband's best friends since middle school, Shawn. He was a giant of a man with a giant heart besides. The funeral lasted several hours as family and friends stood up to share a memory of him.

They described him as strong of body and strong of heart. They described him as someone who met you and immediately considered you a friend, then immediately considered you family after that, a brother or sister. He was the type of guy that would drop absolutely everything to come help you and he never passed judgment.

He was not a perfect human being, but he was pretty amazing and a had a huge impact on Husbando's life.

I only had the opportunity to know Shawn for a few years, but I knew their bond was so strong, so I wanted to do something to help. His passing was sudden and unexpected and a GoFundMe had been started to raise money for his funeral expenses as well as a long hospital stay.

That's when I started sharing that GoFundMe with all of you on social media and I began wondering if holding a fundraising stream would be worth anyone's time. I hadn't streamed in a very long time as I had basically taken the summer off of the internet to be with family and spend some time addressing my own issues that had cropped up with anxiety.

But you all gave me an immense confidence, and some had already started donating to the GoFundMe! Your support meant and still means so much to me. So the stream marathon to raise more money for Shawn began!

Throughout the day, you all shared links to the stream and the GoFundMe, continued donating both to the GoFundMe as well as my personal fundraising effort through PayPal, and some folks stayed in my chat cheering me on literally all day! I was having fun and smiling the entire time, feeling so proud of this community and remembering how much joy I feel when I interact with everyone!

My kids and husband were even on the stream! We played so many games with sometimes mixed results but we kept on truckin'! It was an experience I'll never forget.

We played:

  • Trials Fusion
  • Dragon's Crown
  • Minecraft
  • Nier Automata
  • Never Alone
  • Extreme Exorcism
  • Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Blue Estate
  • Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters Daybreak Special Gigs
  • Resident Evil 6

Together we raised $117.69 on the stream!

And you generously donated over $65.00 directly to the GoFundMe!

You helped a family, an entire community of people, you have never met. I will never forget this generosity and kindness and I guess we'll all have to continue to believe just a little that the internet really is full of good people who want to do good things.

I hope to be back streaming on a regular basis soon and can't wait to have more community time with you guys! I miss the experience so much and am anxious to get back to it! You put a giant smile on my face and warmed my heart and I'm ready to make you smile and laugh too!

See you soon and thank you for everything!

Chu will return!
